The Frida Kahlo Art, Garden, Life exhibit came to the New York Botanical Garden in NYC in May of 2015. Being the procrastinator that I am, I went to visit the exhibit on the last weekend showing, of course! It was absolutely beautiful! I started the tour at the art gallery where there were about a dozen of her original paintings and drawings. Frida’s art displayed at the Botanical garden was captivating and delightful. There was a “no pictures allowed” policy at this exhibit but I can tell you that the long line to get in was worth the wait! Along with some paintings there were the sketches Frida drew out prior to the painting. Sticking with the art, garden, and life theme, there were some paintings where she played with the images of fruits and flowers symbolizing the woman’s womb as well as with her personal fertility issues. Those were, by far, my favorite part of the entire exhibit.
Here are examples of what was at the exhibit:
The New York Botanical Garden is a wonderful place to visit in the fall. Before arriving to the Conservatory, I went for a long walk around the property admiring all the foliage and beautiful grounds.
Finally, to the Frida Kahlo Garden, I arrived! Casa Azul came to life at the Bronx! I was completely at awe with all the beautiful colors surrounding me in not just the paints used to emulate the walls and pyramid, but in the live plants and flowers as well.
